When I was young, I asked my father how he gets me and my brother. The answer was just one and unique which everyone knows it. However, with the progress of science and technology, various answers exist. This is an excellent fact for those who cannot have babies with the old method. Therefore, hundreds if not thousands of women want to know how to get pregnant relying on new methods. According to many studies and researches, many women get pregnant via Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).

What is ART?

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) defines ART as “all fertility treatments in which both sperm and egg are handled.” There is various fertility treatments applied on eggs taken from a woman and combined with sperm in the laboratory. In fact, ART has a more general meaning which involves different methods of fertility treatments meant to help women get pregnant with medical assistance. This kind of assistance includes fertility drugs, artificial insemination and donor eggs or sperm.

Intrauterine Insemination

This method which is abbreviated as IUI means injecting a man’s sperm into a woman’s reproductive tract just in the time of ovulation. This method looks not popular and somehow new but it dates to 1884. IUI did produce successful result only after the 1980s. This method of pregnancy includes different stages and steps which should be followed correctly and severely. If not, the results will not be secure. First of all, the man needs to masturbate and put his ejaculated sperm into a medical container/receptacle.

That liquid or semen should be sent to a laboratory for analysis and the powerful high quality sperm will be extracted and separated from the other chemicals included in the semen as urine residues. After that, the sperm should be injected into the woman’s uterus and all this process is so easy, not painful and just takes an hour to be done.

This method is beneficial for those men who have low sperm quality, number and mobility and it is, at the same time, a successful way for women who want to be moms without having sex with a man. Despite the usefulness, simplicity, practicality and easiness of this method, the results are not always good and secure because it depends on the fertility status of the couple.

In Vitro Fertilization

In Vitro Fertilization is also abbreviated as IVF and it is the most common assisted reproductive technology method. This advanced method consists only in taking a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm in a receptacle in a laboratory for some time waiting for the sperm to fertilize that egg.

If fertilization takes place after a period of time, we will find that an embryo, which is an egg or seed, especially a human egg in the first eight weeks after fertilization, is developing progressively. This embryo is transplanted in the woman’s uterus where it will be implanted and starts to develop into a fetus. This method dates to the 1970s and it produced successful results and the first baby coming out from this method is called “test tube baby”.

This was in 1978. So after this method was proven successful, many couples relied on it and more than 3 million In Vitro Fertilization babies have been born. Various research studies claim that this method is very challenging and attractive for millions of women all over the world. Despite its high costs, IVF is worth adopting it as a solution for millions of infertile couples especially that its success rate ranges between 25% and 35% for young women.

Finally, having babies is the most important thing in this life as they constitute the result of our love, affection and growing sentiments.
